FAQ

Welcome to the Countertop Estimator help index. This software has been designed to provide an interactive means by which a customer can create a countertop design and immediately receive an estimate as to the cost of both fabrication and installation.

Adding Objects

Objects can be added to the estimate such as countertop shapes, sinks and even ranges.

To add a Countertop Object:

  1. Ensure that the "Add Shapes" toolbar is visible by verifying a checkmark next to the Add Shapes item under the View Menu.
  2. Click 1 of the 5 shapes that most closely resembles the Countertop Object that you want to add, noting that it can be resized after it has been added.

To add a Sink Object:

  1. Click Add Shapes then Sinks
  2. A dialog will appear displaying the sinks available for the currently selected brand of countertop. Simply select the sink that you want by clicking on it.

To add a Range Object: Range Objects are used strictly as a visual tool and do not effect the estimate cost in any way.

  1. Click Add Shapes then Range
  2. A dialog will appear displaying the 3 primary types of ranges most often found. Simply click on the range you want to add.

Deleting Objects

To Delete 1 Object:

  1. Ensure that the "Delete Shapes" toolbar is visible by verifying a checkmark next to the Delete Shapes item under the View Menu.
  2. Select the Object that you want to delete by clicking on it and making it the active object.
  3. Press the Delete Current Selection Button.

To Delete All of the Objects:

  1. Ensure that the "Delete Shapes" toolbar is visible by verifying a checkmark next to the Delete Shapes item under the View Menu.
  2. Press the Clear All Canvases Button.

Rotating Objects

  1. Ensure that the "Rotate Shapes" toolbar is visible by verifying a checkmark next to the Rotate Shapes item under the View Menu.
  2. Select the Object that you want to rotate by clicking on it and making it the active object.
  3. Press 1 of the 4 Rotate Buttons to rotate the Object either clockwise, counterclockwise or to flip the object vertically or horizontally.

Moving Objects

  1. Select the Object that you want to rotate by clicking on it and making it the active object.
  2. Click on the inside of the object then while still depressing the mouse button drag the object to where you want it and when you are finished simply release the mouse button.

Resizing Countertops

Resizing countertops is accomplished by moving the edges that define the perimeter of a countertop. Resizing is only allowed on countertops as sinks and ranges have fixed values.

  1. Select the countertop that you want to resize by clicking on it and making it the active object.
  2. Select the edge of the countertop that you want to move by clicking on it and while still depressing the mouse button drag the edge to where you want it and when you are finished simply release the mouse button.

Note: You may want to consider resizing countertops with the Dimensions of the Countertop Visible to more accurately draw your countertop layout.


Selecting a Countertop Color

Selecting a Color applies only to the current canvas, in this way different colors can be chosen for different areas of an installation i.e. Kitchen is a different color than the bathroom

  1. Ensure that the "Canvas Information" toolbar is visible by verifying a checkmark next to the Canvas Information item under the View Menu.
  2. Click on the Color Button
  3. A dialog will appear displaying all of the colors available for selection. Simply click on the color that you wish to select.

Selecting a Similar Color:

For cost considerations you may want to view colors similar to the one currently selected.

  1. Click Select then Similar Colors.
  2. If similar colors can be found then a dialog will appear displaying the colors found and the difference in price. Simply click on the new color to select it or the X to close the dialog with no new colors selection.

Selecting the Profile Edge Type

The profile edge is defined as the edge of the countertop that will be visible after the countertop has been installed. To define these edges read about how to select the edges to be profiled below.

  1. Ensure that the "Canvas Information" toolbar is visible by verifying a checkmark next to the Canvas Information item under the View Menu.
  2. Click on the Edge Button
  3. A dialog will appear displaying all of the edge types available for selection. Simply click on the edge type that you wish to select.

Selecting the Edges to be Profiled:

  1. Click Select then Profile Edges
  2. Click on the edges of you countertop that are to recieve the edge treatment, they will change in color to indicate that they have been selected.
  3. When you are finished selecting the edges turn off the selection feature by again clicking Select and Profile Edges otherwise the countertops cannot be moved or resized.

Selecting a Backsplash Type

  1. Ensure that the "Canvas Information" toolbar is visible by verifying a checkmark next to the Canvas Information item under the View Menu.
  2. Click on the Backsplash Button
  3. A dialog will appear displaying the two different types of backsplash available for selection. Simply click on the backsplash type that you wish to select.

Viewing the Dimensions

  1. Ensure that the "Dimensions" toolbar is visible by verifying a checkmark next to the Dimensions item under the View Menu
  2. Toggle the Dimensions ON or OFF by pressing either of the Dimension buttons.

Using the Snap Feature

The Snap feature provides an easy way to manipulate the objects in an incremented fashion. This feature is provided for both the moving and resizing of objects.

  1. Click View then either Moving Snap or Resizing Snap.

Creating a New Estimate

  1. Click File then New
  2. A Dialog will prompt if you wish to save the current estimate or not.

Saving an Estimate

  1. Click File then Save. If the User Information has not been completed then a dialog will appear to collect this information.
  2. A dialog will appear to ask where you want the estiamte saved.

Opening an Estimate

  1. Click File then Open
  2. Select the File that you wish to open and press. File types are to be of .est

Editing User Information

User Information is collected for follow up purposes.

  1. Click File then User Information
  2. Fill in all the items with an * these are required fields that must be entered before an estimate can be saved or printed.

Editing Canvas Notes

An area for inputing notes is provided for every canvas.
  1. Click File then Notes
  2. Type in the desired notes and press Done when you are finished.

Printing an Estimate

  1. Click File then Print. If the User Information has not been completed then a dialog will appear to collect this information.
